Young footballers who could win the European Golden Boy award this year:

  1. Rodrigo Bentacur (Juventus)

The 20-year-old Uruguayan had some memorable time at Boca Juniors, and when Carlos Tevez was allowed to join them, Juventus added a clause to allow them to approach first when Rodrigo wanted to move away, and that is what happened, and the Old Lady snapped him up. Rodrigo is a versatile midfielder who can play both in a defensive and attacking role and seems to have a lot of promise for the future.

  1. Youri Tielemans (AS Monaco)

The young Belgian caught the eye of many with some stunning performances for the Anderlecht side. The 20-year-old is a dynamic midfielder with great passing abilities and a knack for scoring some outrageous long-range goals. Having already made more than 200 senior appearances, Tielemans has the potential to go on and become one of the finest midfielders in the world.

  1. Theo Hernandez (Real Madrid)

The 19-year-old left back was signed by Madrid from their arch-rivals Atletico this summer. Theo has immense pace and great crossing abilities to provide great energy on the left. He is sharp defensively and does well in tracking back. If he develops well, Madrid may not have to look out for a replacement for Marcelo elsewhere in the future.

  1. Kasper Dolberg (Ajax)

The Dutchman was a hit last season with Ajax, performing exceptionally well both in the Dutch league and also in the Europa league. At the age of only 19, Dolberg scored 23 goals in total in all competitions last season. It will come as no surprise if we see the youngster play for one of the top European clubs next season.

  1. Christian Pulisic (Borussia Dortmund)

The 18-year-old American midfielder burst onto the scene last season and has done phenomenally well. He became the youngest goalscorer for the USA at the age of 17 years and 349 days. Pulisic has been sharp with his dribbling and linking up with players as he was involved in 9 goals last season with Dortmund and has all the attributes to become a great midfielder in the future.

  1. Marcus Rashford (Manchester United)

The 19-year-old Englishman has already become a superstar. Rashford is without an iota of doubt one of the most exciting players to watch in the world right now. With blistering pace and quality finishing abilities, Rashford has been lethal in the attack. He can play both on the wings as well as the striker, and that is what makes him a very dynamic player. With the right guidance, Rashford has the potential to become one of the best attackers in football in the near future.

  1. Gabriel Jesus (Manchester City)

Gabriel played a key role in helping Palmeiras win the Brazilian league title scoring 21 goals in their 2016 campaign. Pep Guardiola and co. acted quickly to get his signature and the Brazilian has shown why he’s worth the hype. He has already been in the goals for City this season and looks to be a very good coup for the Blues.

  1. Ousmane Dembele (Barcelona)

The Frenchman was involved in a huge transfer from Dortmund to Barcelona this summer. The 20-year-old attacker has shown great versatility in the positions he can play. He can play both on the wings as well as centrally, and if that’s not enough, he’s quickly good with both his feet. He will play a vital role in filling the void left by Neymar’s departure and hopefully in the process, become a big star in the football world.

  1. Gianluigi Donnarumma (AC Milan)

The young Italian goalkeeper has achieved a lot in his short football career so far. He made his debut at the age of 16 playing for Milan and started playing for the Italy U-21 team at the age of 17. Currently, 18-year-old Donnarumma has already had huge offers from other European clubs but has stuck with Milan and he can be soon be expected to be a regular for the national team once Gianluigi Buffon retires.

  1. Kylian Mbappe (Paris Saint Germain)

The Frenchman was the biggest star of last season’s campaign for Monaco. Monaco lifted the Ligue 1 title and finished as the semi-finalists in the Champions League courtesy Mbappe’s 26 goals in all competitions. He has signed for PSG on loan for this season, but the move will become permanent next season, and as it is looking right now, PSG have become a massive threat upfront with Cavani and Neymar joined by Mbappe in the attack.
