Jeremy Kennedy and Satoshi Ishii included in PFL 2019 roster

On Monday, officials of the Professional Fighters League announced eight additions to the league’s 2019 roster, including the names of UFC featherweight talent Jeremy Kennedy and Japanese heavyweight champion Satoshi Ishii. The announcement also confirmed the earlier reports of involvement of Francimar Barroso as well as Ronys Torres. Winner of the 2008 Olympic gold medal for judo, Satoshi Ishii has won six consecutive fights in Europe and Japan. His last outing in United States was against Quinton Jackson at the Bellator 157 in June, 2016 where he suffered a split decision loss. Ishii’s last competition saw him claim victory over Fernando Rodrigues Jr. at a KSW event, two weeks ago. This season will be Jeremy Kennedy’s second attempt in the PFL cage, after hehad to withdraw from an alternate spot last season, due to his contract with the Brave Combat Federation. Kennedy holds a 3-1 UFC record, having enjoyed unanimous decision wins over Rony Jason, Kyle Bochniak and Alessandro Ricci. The regular 2019 PFL season starts form 9th May, and will be aired on ESPN+, ESPN2 and ESPN Deportes.


Two fighters face potentially indefinite suspension after UFC Philadelphia

In the aftermath of the UFC Philadephia that took place on 30th March at the Wells Fargo Center, Philadelphia, about 15 fighters are facing medical suspensions. Among these, two fighters have been issued potential indefinite suspensions by the authorities: strawweight veteran Jessica Aguilar and light heavyweight champ, Paul Craig. At the event, Craig submitted Kennedy Nzechkwu after a harrowing third round while Aguilar faced a decision loss against Marina Rodriguez. Owing to the injuries sustained by the two fighters in their respective contests, the Pennsylvania State Athletic Commission has declared that the two will be compelled to seek medical clearance before being declared eligible to return to active competition. Besides Aguilar and Craig, six other fighters who are facing medical suspension for more than a month are Sabina Mazo, Marina Rodriguez, Ross Pearson, Josh Emmett, Michael Johnson and Edson Barboza.


Josh Bernett signed by Bellator

Veteran heavyweight fighter, Josh Barnett recently signed a contract with Bellator, as per the announcement made on Monday, by the promotion’s president Scott Coker and Barnett himself. According to Coker, the former UFC heavyweight title-holder signed the agreement on the MMA Show with Ariel Helwani and Bellator is yet to declare an opponent and a date for Barnett’s debut in the Bellator cage. Holding a score of 35-8 in UFC, Barnett has not competed under MMA regulations since 2016, when he claimed a third-round submission victory over Andrei Arlovski in the headliner of UFC Hamburg. Later that year, the USADA declared that he had been suspected for potential failure in an anti-doping test. Since then, Barnett has actively been engaged outside the MMA world, participating in pro-wrestling and grappling matches. He holds victories over Bellator heavyweights like Roy Nelson, Sergei Kharitonov and Frank Mir.
