GB head coach Danny Kerry: “What can I say? Seven games out of seven, not too shabby. The girls executed the game plan superbly. I am very, very proud of them all. But there’s still one more game to go and they’re going to keep their feet on the ground. I think the final will be a tight, cagey affair. The Netherlands have some talented players and they will probably start as red-hot favourites but we like it that way.”
This years competition lured Britain’s defender, Crista Cullen out of retirement for the games, and what a payback she has had for doing so. “To fight for an Olympic medal is what gets us up every morning, let alone to be in a gold medal match.” Britain have already scalped Argentina and Australia, both ranked second and third in the world respectively. A great performance on Friday and the girls will be singing high with a gold medal to show for all their hard work and effort.
Maybe the girls could teach the England football team a few lessons on what it means to play with pride and passion and to have the desire to win rather than just turn up. Fingers crossed for the girls and let’s hope Great Britain deliver on the night and enjoy a very successful Olympic games.
